Site Visit-Guggenheim

What digital experiences does the museum offer?

Guggenheim provides a free multimedia guide for their visitors, also they have mobile apps for user to download. However, they didn’t show particular signage for announcing they have this service. Actually, I found only one the digital service related poster just before exit the door. Besides this one, Guggenheim does not quite dedicate to promote their digital devices.

Overall, the museum is still working in a very traditional way. Instead of using the app, they provide face to face service. I can find many stuff has a pin on their cloth. “Let’s talk Art.” So I think Guggenheim prefers to encourage their visitor to talk to their staffs.

Who, do you think, is the intended audience for each digital component? Who is it for?

Since Guggenheim is a very famous museum whole around the world. The museum is very crowed in the afternoon. There are many different age generation people inside. Most of the people look like art students or middle age citizen. Also a group of foreign tourists. Those people are qualifying  their target who is familiar with digital devices and usually use other apps on their mobile devices.

What is the goal of each component? In your opinion, was it successful in attaining that goal? Why or why not?

The Guggenheim app is developed for replacing traditional audio guide. However, I found the number of app user is low. Most of the visitors still visit the museum by themselves. I think it’s because Guggenheim does not focus on this part.

Was the content useful/interesting?

I have downloaded the Guggenheim app. I think I like the app very much, the only weak point is the app will occupy a lot of cell phone’s storage. When first time download the app, it will show a notification to ask if user sure to download. For every exhibit, have two extra download other files for certain exhibition.

What was the user experience like? Easy to navigate? Nice to look at? Clear instructions?

The app’s design is very simple to use, and very clearly. The functions on the app are also have been well designed, the map and information is easy to navigate and would like to explore the museum with this app.

Observe others using the components

As I observe, not many people use the app, Guggengheim can see many children are also very welcome. I found New York has so many European, and most of audio guide users are French. I also found if try to connect museum’s wifi. The visitor has to connect to Facebook or Email connect. Which is very smart to collect visitors’ information.
